About Gold

Gold is bought and sold by weight and gold content. Below you will see why 24k gold is worth more than 8k!!!!!

Karat                         Percentage of gold

8K                                 33.3%
9K                                 37.5%
10k                               41.7%
14K                               58.5%
16K                               66.6%     (generally used for dental gold)
18K                               75%
22K                               91.6%
24K                               100%

Here are some tips to help identify what karat your gold is:

Jewelry is generally 10k through 22k. To find out, look inside rings for karat stamp, look on locks and at the ends of chains and bracelets, and on the back of pendants or in the loops for karat stamp.

Types of stamps to look for:
10k  or 417
14K or 585
18K or 750
22K
Silver is stamped 925

Note: Most digital postage or kitchen scales have gram weight, so now you can see exactly how much your gold is worth before you send. This can save us both time, energy, and money!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT IS A DWT?  (penny weight)
DWT is a weight measurement used by jewelers. I have no idea why other than to confuse the general public.

20 dwt =  1oz

1.555g = 1dwt

28g = 1oz

To convert grams to dwt or dwt to grams!!!!! I’m going to use 4 grams as an example.

Gram to dwt...

4g / 1.555= 2.57dwt

Dwt to grams

2.57dwt X 1.555 = 4g

Note: Most digital postage or kitchen scales have gram weight, so now you can see exactly how much your gold is worth before you send. This can save us both time, energy, and money!!!!!!!!!!!!   (See About Gold for tips on gold identification, and what we pay for gold prices.)
